Compost Kids
Students learn why we compost, how we use compost in our gardens, identify decomposers, and taste delicious produce grown in fertile soil. The field trip is free and bus costs may be covered by Hamilton County Recycling and Solid Waste District.
Compost Stew
We'll read the book "Compost Stew" and follow along by creating our own batch of "compost". Students will learn how the earth recycles, and why it's important for us to do things, such as compost, to reduce the amount of waste we create.

Learn the fundamentals of backyard composting and indoor vermicomposting through hands-on activities and appication of scientific methods.

Conserving Natural Resources
The Butler SWCD provides programs free of charge to any school/group within Butler County. Programs cover a wide variety of topics and can involve studying and identifying creek critters, testing minerals, or even playing games to study habitats.

Explore different types of real coral skeletons, experience how a coral polyp feels and view pictures of some of the creatures that live in a coral reef.

Learn about animal adaptations with LIVE animals and real artifacts.

Cycles and Recycles
Explore the cycles in nature including life cycles of amphibians (toads/frogs), insects, plants, water, oxygen and carbon dioxide. An interpretive hike investigates the seasonal cycles of nature. An indoor program focuses on a cycles that humans invented, generating and recycling our solid waste.
