United Way of Greater Cincinnati
Day of Action

Volunteer Opportunities

The United Way of Greater Cincinnati's Day of Action on June 21, 2008 is a call to action for people to give, advocate and volunteer to promote the education of children under six. The Day of Action will advance the common good by providing a fun, celebratory kick-off for the early childhood education initiative. Families will be introduced to the Born Learning Trails and their use by families. Attendees will learn about the impact United Way has on individual lives and our community.

Born Learning Trail

The Born Learning Trail is a ten-station trail with activities that teach children under six new skills and helps strengthen the parent-child bond. It is a permanent installation along a trail in a park or community center.

All Born Learning Trails will be constructed by volunteers and installed by park staff prior to June 21st. The Day of Action will be the 'unveiling' of the trails and each community's commitment to early childhood initiatives. Volunteers and UWGC staff will help with the festivities and family activities.

Benefits to the community, volunteers and UWGC:

  • We are part of a nationwide movement- The Day of Action- to improve the lives of others.
  • The Trail is a tangible, visible display of the community and UWGC's commitment to early childhood education.
  • It is an opportunity for United Way and the community to lead by example to improve early childhood education.
  • The Born Learning Trail signs will be customized with UWGC and sponsor name on signs at the ten activity stations.
  • Increases awareness for United Way initiatives and the importance of early childhood education.
  • Families learn to teach small children new words, ideas and skills using simple signs and tools in their environment.
  • Local parks are utilized by families to teach their children.

Parks are improved by the additional activities, plantings and benches provided as part of the Trail.
