Evanston gets new “nature in the neighborhood”!
7 Aug, 2017. 0 Comments. Community, News. Posted By: lncigc

Every child deserves to play, learn and grow with nature in their everyday lives, and now the children of Evanston will be able to do just that at the new naturescape at the Evanston Recreation Center (ERC).  Conceived nearly three years ago when Leave No Child Inside partnered with the Evanston Community Council to request that the City of Cincinnati purchase a vacant lot adjacent to the ERC for a new natural play area, the idea was embraced by the Cincinnati Recreation Commission as an ideal way to honor the memory of Wayne Lurix, a CRC employee who was the driving force behind many of Cincinnati’s playgrounds.  The Wayne Lurix Memorial Nature Playscape project was selected for the 2017 Community Makeover by Procter & Gamble, the Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden, Cincinnati Children’s Hospital and Kroger.  The naturescape includes trails, balancing logs, water features and areas where children can play with nature, not just in nature.  It also includes a zip line that is proving popular with neighborhood children.
